Zenit Kazan will meet PGE Skra Belchatow in the first semifinal of FIVB 2009 Men’s Club World Championship. Paykan will fight with Trentino in second semifinal.
Zenit Kazan notched up a straight sets win over Zamalek of Egypt (25-18, 25-13, 25-11) in the third and final day of Pool A matches in the 2009 Men’s Club World Championship. Zenit clinched the second Pool A ticket to the semi-final after Trentino BetClic of Italy secured the first yesterday.
"After the defeat against Trentino yesterday (Wednesday) I asked my players to concentrate harder for all the remaining matches in this championship and I believe they done well today. In this match we did rely on our serves and blocks which is our strength and the key of our success," said Vladimir Alekno head coach of Kazan
Paykan of Iran secured the second ticket of pool B to the semifinal of the 2009 Men’s Club World Championship following their straight sets victory over Al Arabi of Qatar 25-23, 25-19, 25-14.
Paykan Tehran Head Coach, Alireza Moameri: "We are proud to book our place in the semifinals as the first Asian team. My confidence was paid off as they played according to the strategies placed for Al Arabi. As a matter of fact, our team has no foreign player, all are Iranian. Our club wanted to recruit players from different countries, but I refused and was against it. Now, we play the toughest Trentino in the semis, strategies will be planned and we hope to play a good match."
Trentino BetClic succeeded to keep their clean sheet when their set the third victory in a row over Plataneros of Corozal (Puerto Rico) in straight sets 25-18, 25-13, 25-19. PGE Skra Belchatowhad to fight and exert a lot of effort to clinch a 3-1 victory (22-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23) over Cimed.
