Macerata won the big game of the first round return games, and together with Piacenza overcomes Modena. Monza beat Perugia in a thrilling tie-break.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – TRENKWALDER MODENA 3:1
Macerata’s 3-1 victory over Modena means that they overcomes its opponent of the day in the table. It was a spectacular and tense game, which ended amongst the protests of Modena against the referees. On one side, there was an outstanding Dennis, on the other an excellent team work, especially at the net (6 in the first set from Macerata). MVP: Valerio Vermiglio.

Ferdinando De Giorgi (Lube Banca marche Macerata): "The team played as a unit today, it only had a little lapse in the second set. As for the rest, I have seen very positive things. We are improving, today we faced a top level team and we managed to do well, this is the way to go now. We’re not thinking about the Italian cup game yet. Our mind is on our road game to Pineto, and then there will be Sunday’s encounter against Perugia. We’ll focus on the remake of today’s game when the time comes”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA 3:2
Monza took revenge on Perugia, which had won the first leg earlier this season. The hosts struggled in the first set before narrowly losing the second and dominating the third and fourth. The tie-break was full of twists and turns: Perugia was 14-12 up but digs from Exiga and a block from Haldane turned things around. Captain Molteni sealed it with a block on Stokr.

Jari Touminen (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “They were better in the first two sets, but then we started to play well and won it. Credit to the whole team, I think it was a good team effort. We might have shown a better spirit, fighting right until the end”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 1:3
Cuneo had the better of Verona 3-1 away and took revenge on the loss suffered earlier this season in its home debut. Giuliani’s boys made no less than 20 blocks, 9 of which came from Fortunato who scored also two aces. The block-dig combination is once again Cuneo’s main weapon.

ANDREOLI LATINA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 0:3
Latina played face to face with Trento but still lost in straight sets. It’s been tight all the way, Latina were even ahead several times, but the World Champions always had the final word. MVP Raphael.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 3:1
Vibo Valentia overcame the malediction of the number 17 and put an end to a negative series of four consecutive defeats by beating Pineto. Jon Uriarte’s boys found it hard only in the first set as they got on court a little tense. Pineto did not take full advantage and Vibo dominated the second. Pineto snatched the third and played the fourth to the wire but a Roberts mistake on the serve gave Vibo the three points.

Piacenza got rid of Taranto in 3 sets with a convincing performance. The ones to shine today were Marshall and Paolo Bravo (MVP), who had his best performance of the season.

SISLEY TREVISO – ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO 3:0
Treviso easily won its home game against Loreto, a team full of players coming from the Treviso area: Dolfo, Cerster and Visentin. This was a convincing performance despite the early loss of Fei, hurt at his hand, who was substituted by Papi (Horstink moved to opposite). The only shaky moment came in the second set when Moretti’s boys wiped out two set points, but Papi eventually sealed it 27-25.
