Michal Lasko, Antonin Rouzier, Pierre Pujol, Wytze Kooistra, Lukas Tichacek or Patrik Steuerwald are candidates for new stars of Plus Liga which will start this Thursday. The title will be defended by PGE Skra Belchatow.
Who are the new faces in Plusliga? Opposite Michal Lasko who was born in Wroclaw but he represents Italy, Bulgarian Metodi Ananiew, Dutch Rob Bontje and Wytze Kooistra, the Serbs Aleksander Atansijevic and Konstantin Cupkovic, Frenchmen Antoine Rouzier and Pierre Pujol, Czech Lukas Tichacek, Americans Paul Lotman and Brian Thornton, Romanian Adrian Gontariu, Swede Marcus Nilsson, German Patrik Steurwald or Brazilians Ashlei Nemer and Raphael Margarido.
The Frenchman Guillaume Samica and Finn Mikko Oivanen came back to Poland After a break to play in other countries. The coach Tomaso Totolo (ex Sisley Treviso) will sit on the bench in Olsztyn. He was employed in Poland 4 years ago when he led Jastrzebski Wegiel.
“Previous season was a successful, organisationally and financially. This season will be unique due to news that we have prepared for volleyball players and fans” – Artur Popko the president of Plus Liga said.
The system of competition was changed again. Taking into account the tight league schedule (the World Cup, preparations for the Olympics), Plus Liga management decided to shorten all the competition, so the national champion will be known no later than the 1-st of May.
One of the novelties will be the introduction of video verification. Artur Popko explained that each team would be able to ask the judge to examine the last action and checked the correctness of the decision. It will be the first such a video system in the world.
The first match of the new season will play on Thursday in Warsaw where the local Politechnika Warszawska will face Delecta Bydgoszcz. The official inauguration is scheduled for Friday in Gdansk, where Lotos Trefl will fight against defending champion PGE Skra Belchatow.
