As we already have told you, and maybe as you already know, there are many problems in the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation (BVF). Just a short look over what passed the last year in Bulgaria.

The Bulgarians hosted two Olympic Tournaments – the first one ended with a big scandal and the dismissal of Radostin Stoytchev as a head coach of the Bulgarian national team. Thanks to supporters’  protests over the social networks Radostin accepted to lead the team in the second Olympic Tournament, which was held again in the capital of Bulgaria- Sofia. But there was one big requirement- Stoytchev, who was offended by the behaviour of the President of BVF  Dancho Lazarov and other members (like former volleyball star Liubo Ganev), said he will leave the team after the Olympic Tournament, if the governance of BFV does not give its resignation.
One of the biggest stars in the volleyball world – Matey Kaziyski, supported his coach. But truth is that Matey’s protest wasn’t only because of Radostin, nevertheless that some of people claim this. Kaziyski left because of improper management in the Federation, because of unproper contracts for the players etc.

But ..Resignation wasn’t given. And both – Stoytchev and Kaziyski, left the team exactly one month before the Finals in FIVB World League and the Olympic Games in London 2012, right after Bulgaria joined the Olympic family. Lazarov  gave an interview for the media, where he defined the supporters in the country as ” a crew of villains”.
The “fairytale” does not end here.
Despite the fact that the team was a bit destroyed, the Bulgarian players were the big surprise in London, while ending 4th without Matey and setter Andrey Zhekov (who left the team too).

The sad part of the story is that neither this success nor the leaving of Matey Kaziyski and Radostin Stoytchev changed the inner situation in the BVF. Misuse of funds, failure to comply with public procurement laws and a lack of transparency are just some of the problems. Unfortunately, it seems that nobody who has power to change the things, paid attention.
The good part is that many volleyball supporters took the situation seriously. They named themselves “The Villains” (because ot Lazarov’s words) and began working for the salvation of the Bulgarian volleyball.
“The Villains” have already condemned BFV because BFV denied giving proper information about funding etc.

The latest news came yesterday. “The Villains” wrote a letter to  the Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev. Why to the President?

The political situation in Bulgaria is not so bright right now. The are many protests, the Government gave a resignation and now Bulgaria is “shaking”. There were some rumors spread, that Liubo Ganev would be the new Minister of the Sport. This is something that “The Villains” really don’t want to happen. Here is part of what they wrote to the President:

“We don’t doubt the sports qualities and the success achieved by Mr. Ganev in his sports career. Unfortunaetly, these memories faded away in the recent years, because of Mr. Ganev’s behaviour in BVF. We have already informed you for the miuses of BFV, but despite this fact, the governance of BFV keeps on working in the same way. We don’t want a Sports Minister who, thanks to his position in BFV,  received 137 000 lv ( 65 000euro) from state funds. (…) Mr. President, are you proud of this? “.

“The Villains” give many more examples why Mr. Ganev shouldn’t take the place of Sports Minister.

They do believe in their cause: “We really hope that you ( to the President) will make an  independent and objective decision and you won’t make a mistake by whipping in politics people like Ganev”.

What do you think, dear “Volleycountry readers” ? Are the Villains the real Villains or ..not?
