This volleyball drill focuses on improving your passing skills, which are crucial for success. It’s a game for at least 8 players of every age and abilities.

Description
It’s a game played on proper courts for three-to-three or four-to-four, depending on age of players. Team A begins with serving the ball to the opposite side. Then team B passes the ball into the particular zone (determined as a place to set the ball), using forearm pass. 3 points are scored for each accurate passing the ball up to the setter, that is, close to the middle part of attack zone. Next 1 point is granted to the team that wins the action. Team can score 2 extra points for successful hit – 1 if the attack is a second contact with the ball, 2 if it’s a third one. Points won’t be granted if the ball is not passed to particular zone.

Teams take turns serving the ball, no matter which one won previous action. Rotation follows after every completed action.

Variants

To make the game easier for younger or less skills players:

  • coach’s serve has to conform to receivers’ abilities;
  • player throw the ball accurately to receiver instead of serve it;
  • let players to come closer to the line when serving;
  • grant 1 point for passing the ball to any zone and 3 if it is directed to particular one (accurate pass);
  • play three-to-four and make substitutions after completing the action that involves inaccurate pass.

To make the game more demanding for older or higher skills players:

  • grant points when team makes three actions in a row that include accurate passing to particular zone, close to the middle part of attack zone;
  • reduce the size of the zone which the ball is directed to after the passing;
  • grant points only in the case that receiver announces his readiness to pass with a shout and directs the ball to proper place;
  • play three-to-four with a setter running below the net to the opposite side( to set the ball to another team) while the ball is overhead;
  • require players to make rotation every time the ball goes over the net;
  • take away points from the team that doesn’t pass the ball in the way letting continue the game;
  • serving team competes with receiving team till one of them scores 3 points in a row. Receivers get points for each accurate passing and service error of the opposite team while servers can score points if the opponent’s passing is inaccurate (the ball is not directed to particular zone) and also for a service ace.
