Noliko Maaseik missed a spot for the final four Champions League. Jastrzebie can celebrate one of the greatest success of the club.

Noliko won 3:0 in the return match of the Playoffs 6 against Jastrzebie (25-12, 25-16, 25-23). But their opponents claimed the golden set 15-17 to celebrate a real premiere for the club from Silesia that did never go that far in Europe’s most elitist competition.

In front of a full house, with some 3,000 fans in attendance, Noliko played with glowing hearts to make it to the final four but their dream was gone some minutes later.

Lorenzo Bernardi said after the game: “Some details made the difference in the golden set. We kept the leadership until the end and there we turned our home win into a ticket for the final four. We did not play well in the first sets and Maaseik showed there all of their experience”.

Noliko’s assistant coach Bert Derkoningen: “This is a real major defeat for us: it was up to some details up to the end of the last set. We fought until the very end but the luck was on their side. They didn’t play the first sets and wanted to make the difference in the golden set”.

Happy end for JASTRZEBSKI after Noliko scores 3:0 win

2011 CEV Champions League – Men

Maaseik, Belgium, March 8, 2011. Noliko MAASEIK narrowly missed a spot for the final four of the 2011 CEV Champions League – Men tonight after the Belgians stamped a massive 3:0 win in the return match of the Playoffs 6 against JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel of Poland (25-12, 25-16, 25-23) before their opponents claimed the golden set 15-17 to celebrate a real premiere for the club from Silesia that did never go that far in Europe’s most elitist competition.
In front of a full house, with some 3,000 fans in attendance, Noliko powered to a brilliant start (5:1 and 8:2) and an ace of Jelte Maan forced the coach of JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel, Lorenzo Bernardi, into a time-out as the score stood at 11:3 for MAASEIK. Maan contributed another break for the 16:7 and was well supported by his fellows (20:10) before Mory Sidibé stamped the final 25-12.
Noliko dictated the rhythm also in the opening of the second set (6:3 and 8:5 at the first mandatory stop); Kevin Klinkenberg moved the score up to 13:8 for the hosts and MAASEIK had a solid margin (16:11) by the second technical time-out. Klinkenberg was totally dominating the scene (20:12) together with Maan, before an ace of Sidibé closed the operations at 25-16.
Noliko set the pace in set 3 (8:7) and although JASTRZEBSKI attempted a comeback, the Belgians widened the gap again (14:10) before the guests turned it around by profiting of some errors across the defence of MAASEIK (16:17), caused also by the serves of Mitja Gasparini. Slovak Lukas Divis moved the count to 22:23 but MAASEIK was not to stop and went for the golden set (25-23).
After a tie at 3, JASTRZEBSKI went up 3:5 there and Belgian mentor Vital Heynen asked for a break. It did not really contribute the results he was hoping for, as Wegiel stretched the lead (first 6:9 and then to 10:12); Noliko played with glowing hearts to make it to the final four but their dream was gone some minutes later.
