Ankara – Three top teams and one outsider – that was setting of this years Turkish Volleyball Cup Final Four, played last weekend in Ankara.

Teams of Arkas Izmir, Fenerbahce and Istanbul Büyüksehir Belediyesi had real chance of victory, but for Besiktas, one of two teams which are leaving the Turkish first league, it was obviously their last performance among Turkish volleyball elite.

In semifinals, Fenerbahce easily defeated Besiktas 3:0 and Arkas won a tied match 3:1 over Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi.

Final match was a duel of two foreign coaches Hoag (Arkas) vs. Castellani (Fenerbahce) and reprise of last year Greek finals spiker fights Miljkovic (Fenerbahce, 22 points and 1 block) vs. Agamez (Arkas, 31 points and 4 blocks).

Dramatic and attractive game of two long-time Turkish rivals brought both strong and weak moments at both sides, especially of setters Koç and Ekşi. After losing 1:2, Arkas returned into match in fourth set and by not allowing the opponent to take any lead, won a deciding tie-break 15:13. By gaining Turkish Cup, Arkas made up for the recent defeat in Challenge Cup finals against Macerata.

Despite the defeat, Fenerbahce proved an increasing performance just before the start of Turkish league play-off.
