Six more teams joined group of qualified teams for European Championship in Austria/Czech Republic. Poland, France, Bulgaria, Russia and Serbia are directly qualified from ECH in Turkey 2009.
Germany qualified for the final round of the 2011 CEV Men’s European Championship. The Germans lose only one set in their Pool and did not shake also against Montenegro to delight their home fans in Tübingen. On the other hand, after the classy achievements of ACH Volley BLED in the CEV Champions League, Slovenia confirms to be an emerging Volleyball power defeating for the second time in less than one week 2007 European champion Spain to make it directly to the 2011 European Championship. These two teams are joined by Finland and Portugal that had to go through an unexpected tough match with Sweden before celebrating that direct qualification.
Pool C and E had a thrilling final on Sunday with Belgium vs. Slovakia and Italy vs. Turkey respectively deciding the final rankings after six matches. Italy did not dissapoint their fans and completed fabulous run in front of a massive home crowd in Gioia del Colle to walk over first-round sensation Turkey in three straight sets and claim a spot for the final round of next year’s CEV European Championships in Austria/Czech Republic. Slovakia also joins the group after having outclassed Belgium in the last and decisive match on schedule in Antwerp.
A third qualification round consisting of home and away matches – featuring Spain vs. Belgium, Turkey vs. Greece and Estonia vs. Netherlands and scheduled for next September will complete the starting field of the next European Championship.
