Noliko Maaseik missed a spot for the final four Champions League. Jastrzebie can celebrate one of the greatest success of the club.
Noliko won 3:0 in the return match of the Playoffs 6 against Jastrzebie (25-12, 25-16, 25-23). But their opponents claimed the golden set 15-17 to celebrate a real premiere for the club from Silesia that did never go that far in Europe’s most elitist competition.
In front of a full house, with some 3,000 fans in attendance, Noliko played with glowing hearts to make it to the final four but their dream was gone some minutes later.
Lorenzo Bernardi said after the game: “Some details made the difference in the golden set. We kept the leadership until the end and there we turned our home win into a ticket for the final four. We did not play well in the first sets and Maaseik showed there all of their experience”.
Noliko’s assistant coach Bert Derkoningen: “This is a real major defeat for us: it was up to some details up to the end of the last set. We fought until the very end but the luck was on their side. They didn’t play the first sets and wanted to make the difference in the golden set”.
