Last week I had the chance to visit a friendly game between the teams of Marek Union Ivkoni – Bulgaria and Dinamo (Moscow) – Russia.
Luckily for me, the game was held in my hometown, in the sports hall where I’ve spent wonderful days by training and enjoying the volleyball game.

Maybe I won’t surprise you by telling you that I was highly overjoyed. To come  to this place again, to feel the atmosphere. It reminded me of so many happy moments- when I was with my team and we practiced, laughed and practiced again.

I am sure that you all people, who love volleyball, have your “big moments on the volleyball field”. No matter if you have been a professional player, an amateur or just a fan of the game. And now imagine, that you see many volleyball people coming to your sports hall, just enjoying the game. Some of the best known Bulgarians like Dimo Tonev, Nayden Naydenov, the father of Matey Kaziyski etc.

And most importantly – you see two Teams. I write it with big T, because those guys showed us what is fair play indeed. One of the teams was the well-known Dinamo (Moscow) and the other was the Bulgarian Champion Marek.
Both teams took a photo of them together before the game started.
What I liked the most was the play itself. Bartosz Kurek & company showed the Bulgarian fans why they’re called one of the bests. You could imagine, how pleased I was seeing them playing. And when you looked around you see many happy faces, many people who are passionate about the sport.

There were no offending shouts, no bad moments, nevertheless that the Bulgarian team lost 1:4 (the 5th set was played because of the practice itself).
And here comes the last minute of the game, the last point. For the very first time in my life I saw all the people in the sports hall standing on their feet and applauding. Like we were in the theatre and this was not just a sports event. Players from both teams turned to the supporters, bowed and began applauding too.

So, I’ve written this article not because I wanted to tell you about the match itself. I just wanted to remind you why we love the volleyball. I am sure you all have your own answers, your own reasons. To me, the volleyball is the sport that gave me many, many things. It taught me to never give up and to fight. But it also taught me that respect is a very important part of life.

Now, please, ask yourself – “Why I love volleyball?”.
And never forget the answer..because it may be the key to your own happiness.
