For the second time in a row Trento gained the Italian Cup. Kaziyski and co. claimed a victory in four sets over Macerata after a thrilling and fierce battle. The MVP was chosen Raphael Vieira de Oliveira.

Itas Diatec Trentino finishes the year 2012 in style, wining the Italian Cup after a great match against Lube Banca Macerata. In the first two sets the players of Macerata looked more nervous than their opponents and made more mistakes. Above all the current Italian Champion had many problems to receive strong services made by Trento and, consequently, had difficulty with the first attack. Dragan Travica didn’t really handle the pressure. From the other side, Matey Kaziyski sent bombs from the serving area, Raphael could set whatever he wanted and Mitar Djuric was unstoppable in attack.
The third set began with 2 errors of Trento. Macerata maintained the advantage of 2,3 points through the whole set. It was Ivan Zaytsev who changed the game of Macerata and gave hope to his colleagues. His great serves made Juantorena commit mistakes in attack and allowed Lube to place an efficient block. Trento fought well scoring an ace and 2 points from attack by Kaziyski (19-17), however the ending of the set belonged to Macerata and Ivan Zaytsev who was an absolute hero of that part of the game.
The fourth and ultimate set seemed a little bit calmer, neither side wanted to commit unnecessary mistakes. The fight was very tied. With a result 6-6 on the scoreboard an unpleasant injury for Jan Stokr, who had to finish the match at that point. However, Nikolay Uchikov, who replaced him made an excellent performance. Until the ultimate whistle of the referee there was a battle on the court! There was a tie 22-22, then Zaytsev failed from the serving area, but a minute later scored a beautiful point from attack. 23-23 – Djuric scored from the center and, to prove that tonight the luck was on the Trento’s side, the ball after the serve of Matey Kaziyski fell just beyond the net.
After the match the head coach of Trento, Radostin Stoychev, said: “We deserved this success, but we played two games in one match. In the first part we were almost perfect, playing volleyball of the highest level, in the second part of the match our efficiency decreased, but we did not loss our character. Raphael MVP? I’m not surprised, he is often among the best players on the court, even if maybe he stands out less the the others”.
