The Cuban Volleyball Federation terminated a contract with Orlando Samuels Blackwood and gave the national team into a new hands.
This year was extremely poor for the Cubans. During the World League they won only one game out of ten. It was the worst performance of that team in history. From the world vice-champion 2010 Cuba became a weak team of the World League 2013. However, it important to remember how many great players are missing in their national team. Robertlandy Simon, Wilfredo Leon, Yoandry Diaz – those stars were defining the power of Cuban volleyball.
Nevertheless, head coach Blackwood is being replaced. This job will be take over by Rodolfo Sánchez, who was also the national team player in the 90s.
CVF officials expressed that local sport authorities would be willing to discuss with some former players, who deserted and now play for foreign leagues, the possibility to return temporarily to the national selection.
