No big surprise during the day 1 of the women´s Olympic qualification in Ankara. Poland, Germany and Turkey have won their matches.

Giovanni Guidetti, coach of Germany and Turkish top-team Vakifbank, probably feels like at home in the new Ankara Baskent sports complex where the women´s Olympic qualification takes place.

Germany has easily beaten Croatian in straight sets 25:12, 25:16 and 25:17, as Croatia literally gave the match to them with very low 31 % of killed balls in attack and 20 attack unforced errors. Croatia plays without Maja Poljak who refused to play in national team after this season and also Senna Usic is missing.

In game between Holland and Poland, the Polish serves and blocks (18 block points) became the deciding factor which led to 3:1 victory of Poland. Especially Anna Werblinska was impressive at block (8 blocks), along with Berenika Okuniewska (5).

Holland succeeded to win the 3th set 25:23, got some momentum, but did not start the 4th set well. Performance of experienced Manon Flier and Debby Stam-Pilon (together 20 points) was not enough. At least lesson for the rest of this young Oranjes team!

The last game of Day 1 was another piece-of-cake, this time for ambitious Turkish home-team, supported by massive attendance of 7,000 fans. Turkey defeated Bulgaria 3:0 (-21, 17, 15) and secured their chances to advance from their pool. Turkish captain Esra Gümüs had great night with 18 points, along with Neslihan Darnel and Bahar Toksoy.

According to overall expectations, Day 2 will bring big and key-matches: Netherland – Serbia, Russia – Poland and Turkey – Croatia. Watch them live at laola tv!
