The CEV U19 European Championship is underway and we can easily outline the continent’s rising stars. The player we will write about today is a participant in the U19 event in Turkey and belongs to the boys’ volleyball elite even if Romania is yet to score a win in the finals.

With transient appearance in the 2015 CEV DenizBank Champions League, Robert Aciobanitei is undoubtedly the country’s brightest talent. The 17-year-old plays for Tomis Constanta, the country’s best volleyball club and already competes with much more experienced professionals. He doesn’t enjoy so much court time yet due to the severe competition in the squad of the 4-time Romanian champion, but shines on international level where he helped his team immensely on the route to their first Youth European Championship. The outside attacker is the second best scorer in the tournament’s group stage before the last day of actions and was the major threat for opponents when they had to face Romania. 27 points versus the hosts Turkey, an impressive number for a receiver, tops Robert’s performances in Sakarya.

There is a good reason for Tomis’ Bulgarian head coach Martin Stoev to keep the teenager in the first team as Aciobanitei is a player who is likely to lead Romania’s senior squad quite soon.
