A real battlefield is Greek volleyleague at the moment. Olympiacos is on top the undisputed leader but what follows is another deal.

Olympiacos had an easy win 3-0 against the last of the Ranking, Milonas and had the chance to give some rest to some of its players like Boyan Yordanov, Milan Jurisic was still out due to an injury but he is going to be back shortly.

The second team of the Ranking, Pamvohaikos beat Niki Aiginiou by 3-1 a win pretty much expected cause Pamvohaikos is a very strong team especially in its own court, plus Pamvohaikos and Niki’s players had a good 2 weeks rest due to the League Cup finals. Niki tried to resist and took the third set but Pamvohaikos was determined not to lose the valuable points that would kept the team at the second place.

Ethnikos Alexandroupolis beat GS Lamia by 2-3 in a very important game. GS Lamia took the first 2 sets but at the beginning of the 3rd set Alan Komel, Lamia’s best receiver was injured and after that Lamia didn’t have rhythm any more, made easy mistakes, Ethnikos pressed a lot at the service and Ivan Raic the opposite of Ethnikos helped the team to take full control of the game and finally win by 2-3.

PAOK took a very important game against Finikas Siros and the 2 teams are now stand together at 4th place, but PAOK had a clean 3-0 win at Siros in the first round so the team from Thessaloniki is the one that has the advantage now. Foinikas had a good start but PAOK was very determined and took the first set. Finikas pressed a lot at the second set and made the tie 1-1 but after that PAOK was a better team in the court and with good blocks won the game. It was the first win for the new coach of PAOK, Stelios Kazazis.

AO Kifisias had an exquisite game against Aris and won by 3-0. AO Kifisias had a good pace throughout the game, powerful attacks by Christos Bellos and Theoklitos Karipidis, very good receptions as well. Aris tried at the first set but AO Kifisias was more relaxed and produced better results. At the second set Kifisias controlled the game through and through. At the third set Aris tried but AO Kifisias was a better team once again. This defeat resulted the layoff of Aris’ coach, Giorgos Giatsis.

The 20th match day was concluded by the game between Iraklis Thessalonikis – Panathinaikos, the teams that are fighting to stay out of the play outs but Iraklis was a much better team and won by 3-0. Iraklis was a slightly better at the first set from Panathinaikos that had problems in finalizing attacks and in reception as well. Iraklis leaded the set, Panathinaikos came closer at the end but Iraklis had a good lead and took the set. Second set Iraklis was still better with good block and had a head start by 11-6 and Panathinaikos still faced problems with block and reception and lost the following two sets though at the third set Panathinaikos improved and came too close to get it.

Now Panathinaikos is in big trouble and too close to stay out of the play outs and go down to A2 league.
