The team from Gdansk host Asseco Resovia Rzeszow showed an effort to add another chapter to their history. In the breath-taking ambience at the Ergo Arena in Gdansk, supporters saw a great volleyball played by both teams with Lotos Trefl Gdansk securing the trophy.

There’s not much of a coincidence anymore that the team from Gdansk is currently playing on the top level. Lotos built upon only 7 players finished regular season third and in the play-offs firstly won twice with the team from Bydgoszcz, just to add another spectacular result by throwing out from the big final Skra Belchatow. We want to enjoy being the hosts of such a great tournament – said Andrea Anastasi two days before the tournament. He indeed enjoyed it until the last point, when right after, supporters in Ergo Arena could see him jumping on the commentators table with a huge satisfaction and pride.

Although Lotos won the game 3:1, the two last sets were very competitive and tied. Last action will be remembered for a long time, when chosen later the MVP of the tournament, Mateusz Mika scored the last point for his team. It was definitely a glorious moment and will be saved in Lotos history. After cruising to a 3:1 home victory last night against Asseco Resovia Rzeszow, the visitors could celebrate a historic achievement for their club. The players of Italian head coach Andrea Anastasi shut out Resovia in four sets winning the big final.

Nothing is impossible – said it the coach of Lotos Trefl Gdansk, Andrea Anastasi after the victory. – If someone said before the season that we would have any chances to win the Cup, most people would simply laugh. But we have proven that working hard in this arena for the past nine months was worth it.

Despite being better in reception (52% with 48% of Lotos) and serve (9 aces of Resovia and 7 of Lotos) and almost the same in attack (50% of Lotos and 49% of Resovia), the team from Rzeszow couldn’t deliver their best performance as a group. The hosts showed an amazing team spirit and fought until the end. German national Jochen Schops was the best scorer of the match with 23 points for Resovia. Sebastian Schwarz and Mateusz Mika from Lotos Trefl Gdansk followed with 21 points each.image1
